Why U of Talent?
U of Talent is a unique program which helps participant's tap into their own creative and expressive nature by combining a solid curriculum with self esteem based themes. Through the use of exercises which use these creative thought processes, individuals will be able to better recognize their true potential.
Right brain thinking is the wave of the future. It cannot be measured or imitated by technology. It is an intangible commodity rich in resources. It cannot be traded, off shored or monopolized. This is why a program such as U of Talent is very important for the economic development and sustainability of a community.
Creativity is a key ingredient in problem solving, helping communities to thrive, nurturing our successes. It is also what makes us individual, helps us obtain personal fulfillment, and brings us together to work towards a better, stronger world.
U of Talent was born of the need to integrate a non tangible creative thought process into our youth. The concept of creative class is widely accepted as being characteristic of thriving communities and attributed to their core of artistic thinkers. According to Richard Florida, this is where we begin to grow and develop as a society without the presence of economic threats which pull industry from our shores and ravage established commercial relationships in the favour of profits and bottom lines. For far too long, budgets have reduced one of their most important resources first: creativity. Now is the time to recognize the issue that we all suffer when these cuts are made. This program recognizes the importance of this resource, and the underscores a return to an appreciation of the value of it, regardless of age, background or gender.
Communities in Ontario have been hit hard by the impact of this downturn. Our current dire economic situation requires that we rethink the training of our society, and the importance of creativity within our society. Daniel Pink states in "A Whole New Mind" that possessing distinct and prevalent creative thought process in our communities will help them thrive and prosper. We need to ensure that we can sustain our economies through means other than just manufacturing.
